Forum marks 154th Gandhi birthday in style

On October 6th 2023, the Gandhi Forum visited Elnathan Private Secondary School in the area of Machinjiri in Blantyre to commemorate the 154th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on October 2nd. The purpose of the visit was to create awareness of human values and to donate some learning material. The event was attended by around 200 students, staff and the Director of the School.

The head boy of the school, Mr Austin Soopa, thanked the forum for its commitment to supporting students’ learning by distributing books and writing material and providing valuable advice and guidance. He promised to be an active member of the Gandhi forum after finishing school.

The school’s headteacher, Mr Mpota, was delighted and thanked the forum for visiting the school as it motivated the students and management. Asabuni Phiri, a member of the Gandhi forum, advised the students to refrain from violence and adopt ‘contact and dialogue’ in public dealings as guided by Mahatma Gandhi.

Professor Nandin Patel, the Guest of Honour and a member of the forum, emphasised the need to live with the spirit of coexistence with respect for diverse tribes, religions and races. Environmental degradation threatens the world, and no country is spared of its consequences. We all must do our part to protect the environment and secure future generations.

The students were asked to say a few points they picked from the talks, and they accepted the task and performed exceedingly well.

The school’s Director, Mrs Bottomani expressed her happiness over the interaction of Gandhi Forum with the students and staff and invited the forum to visit again.
